TL;DR: Yes, you can have a painted slipper bath or a coloured roll top bath: the outside of the bath is painted in the colour you choose and the inside stays white, and we offer this on both acrylic and cast iron baths.
- Our Tilelyte Bath Collection acrylic baths can be painted to order in almost any colour, including Farrow & Ball and Dulux shades, a match to your sample or a metallic finish.
- Many of our Imperial cast iron baths come in grey primer, ready to paint, with painting to a RAL colour available.
- Some baths come in a factory colour instead, such as the Carron Halcyon in white, black or red.
- Painting adds to the price, so ask us for a quote with your colour.
- Look after a painted bath with a soft cloth and mild soapy water, never abrasive cleaners.
Yes, you can have a painted slipper bath or a coloured roll top bath. The outside of the bath is painted in the colour of your choice while the inside stays white, and we offer this on both our acrylic and our cast iron baths. Painting works best on freestanding baths, because the whole outside is on show.
This guide covers which baths can be painted, what a painted finish involves, colour ideas and how to look after it.
Which baths can be painted?
Painted acrylic roll top and slipper baths
Every freestanding bath in the Tilelyte Bath Collection can have its outside finished in a colour. On our roll top, slipper and boat baths, the painting is done by hand to order in the UK, in almost any colour, including Farrow & Ball and Dulux shades, a match to your own sample or a metallic finish. These baths are supplied in gloss white unless you order the painting service, so contact us with your colour for details and a price.
Good candidates include the Jena roll top slipper bath (1350mm, from £1,786 in white), the Audra roll top boat bath (1580mm or 1700mm, from £1,885 in white) and the Dora double-ended slipper (1750mm, from £1,840 in white).
A few of our modern acrylic baths show an "any colour (to order)" option on the product page. For example, the Dupla double slipper bath is £1,777 in white or £2,562 in a colour of your choice, including VAT at the time of writing. You tell us the colour and we confirm it before the bath is made.
Painted cast iron baths
Many of our Imperial cast iron baths are supplied in grey primer, ready to be painted. Imperial offers painting to a RAL colour of your choice, or your decorator can paint the primed bath on site. Examples include the Regent cast iron slipper bath (from £7,275) and the Rousham (from £4,330), which also lets you choose the finish of the feet. Ask us for the price of painting when you choose your colour.
Factory colours and metal finishes
Some baths are made in a colour rather than painted. The oval Carron Halcyon comes in white, black or red at £2,414, and the Carron Celsius 1900 x 900mm comes in white or black. On the cast iron side, the Dovedale comes primed or in polished cast iron, the Bagiloni is available in a solid copper finish and the Radison Aluminium has a polished aluminium exterior.

What does a painted finish involve?
Only the outside of the bath is painted. The inside, where you sit and where the water goes, keeps its original white surface. The outside is prepared so the paint bonds properly, then painted and finished. Painted baths are commonly finished in a soft matt, eggshell or gloss sheen, and metallic finishes suit a brass or gold scheme. Ask us which finishes are available for the bath you have chosen.
Because the bath is made or painted to order, allow time for it in your project plan. If you are having a primed cast iron bath painted on site, agree with your fitter when it will be done, and keep the room well ventilated while the paint dries.
Coloured roll top bath ideas
Blue roll top bath
Deep navy or inky blue looks smart with white walls and brass or nickel taps. Paler blues and blue-greys suit a calm, coastal scheme.
Pink and green roll top baths
Soft plaster pink is warm and works well with brushed brass. Dark green suits period homes, panelled walls and patterned floor tiles, while sage and olive are gentler.
Red, black and gold roll top baths
Red and black make the bath the focal point, and the Carron Halcyon comes in both from the factory. For a gold look, ask about a metallic finish, or pair a white cast iron bath with gold feet. The Ritz 1700 cast iron slipper bath is listed in a White/Gold finish, from £4,595.
Whatever colour you pick, match the taps and waste to the scheme. Our guide to bathroom tap finishes explains the options.
How to look after a painted bath
- Clean the outside with a soft cloth and warm, mildly soapy water, then dry it.
- Avoid abrasive cleaners, scouring pads, bleach and solvent-based products on the painted surface.
- Wipe off splashes of hair dye, fake tan and bath oils straight away.
- Keep sharp or heavy objects away from the outside, and lay a mat so feet and stools do not scuff it.
- If the paint is ever chipped, ask us before touching it up, so the repair matches.
Frequently asked questions
Can you paint a slipper bath?
Yes. Our acrylic slipper baths, such as the Jena and Dora, can be painted to order, and cast iron slipper baths such as the Regent come in primer ready to paint.
Can you paint cast iron baths?
Yes, on the outside. Many Imperial cast iron baths are supplied in grey primer, and painting to a RAL colour is available. Our cast iron bath buying guide covers sizes, feet and prices.
What are the best painted baths?
The best painted baths are freestanding roll top, slipper and boat baths, because the whole outside is on show. Choose the shape and material first, then the colour. Our acrylic freestanding baths guide will help you compare shapes.
Are coloured freestanding baths more expensive?
Yes, a coloured finish adds to the price of the bath. Where a product page shows an "any colour" option, the price is listed there. For our other baths, ask us for a quote with your chosen colour.
