Basins & Pedestals

A basin and pedestal is the simplest way to give a traditional bathroom its centrepiece: the pedestal carries the bowl and hides the waste. Here you will find Imperial's Carlyon, Radcliffe, Regent, Astoria Deco and Lichfield pairings, from a 520mm cloakroom basin to the 720mm Carlyon.

Check the height as well as the width. Finished heights run from about 785mm to 900mm, so measure against any window sill or tiling line before you choose.

Choosing a basin and pedestal

Each pairing here is a white ceramic basin on its own matching pedestal, so the style comes down to the shape of the bowl and column. The Carlyon large basin and pedestal has a deep rolled rim and a fluted pedestal, with a 210mm deep bowl. Regent and the Astoria Deco large both stand 900mm high, and Astoria Deco brings an Art Deco outline to a period room.

Imperial hold their white ceramic in stock, so most of these arrive in around a week. Lichfield is the exception to watch: its overflow ring is finished to match your taps, and finishes other than chrome are made to order in roughly four weeks.

Pipework and tap holes

A pedestal hides the waste and trap, so it looks tidiest when the supply pipes can be run neatly behind the column. It is worth talking this through with your fitter before you order. Every basin on this page comes with one or three tap holes: one for a mono mixer, three for a traditional three-hole set. Choose your taps first so you order the right one.

Is a basin and pedestal suitable for a small bathroom?

Yes. A pedestal takes up very little floor space. The Astoria Deco small basin and pedestal is 520mm wide for a cloakroom, and there are more compact options in our small basins and vanity units.

Should I choose a pedestal or a basin stand?

A pedestal hides the pipework and feels solid and familiar. A metal stand leaves the floor open and shows the trap, which suits a lighter look. Compare the two in our basin stands and washstands, or see our traditional bathroom ideas guide for how each fits a period scheme.

Are taps and wastes included?

No. Taps and wastes are sold separately, so you can match them to the rest of the room. See every option in our full bathroom basins range, or book a free one-to-one consultation through our contact page.
