Planning your bathroom accessories
Accessories are easy to leave until last, but they work best when their positions are planned with the rest of the room. Before tiling, it helps to decide where each piece will go so the fixings land in the right place and nothing clashes with a tap, valve or window.
- By the bath or shower: a towel rail within easy reach, and a Richmond wall-mounted shower tidy for bottles.
- By the basin: a tumbler holder, soap dish or soap dispenser, and a glass shelf.
- By the WC: a toilet roll holder, a spare roll holder and a WC brush holder.
- On the door or wall: single or double robe hooks for dressing gowns.
Towel rails and hooks
The Richmond towel rail comes in 30cm, 50cm and 66cm widths, plus a double rail. The 66cm Richmond towel rail suits a bath towel, while the shorter sizes suit hand towels by a basin. For warm towels, look at the heated towel rails in our bathroom heating collection.
Traditional fittings and wall lights
A traditional bathroom has more metalwork on show than a modern one. Imperial's cistern levers and exposed traditional basin traps (P trap, S trap or bottle trap) come in the same finishes as the taps, and cistern brackets and ceramic connectors help complete a traditional WC.
The wall lights come in different finishes from light to light, so check each product page. Any light fitted near a bath or shower must have the right IP rating for its zone and be installed by a qualified electrician.
Do the accessories match the taps?
Yes. Richmond accessories come in the same five finishes as Imperial's taps and showers, so you can keep one finish throughout. Chrome usually takes around a week, and the other finishes are made to order in around four weeks.
Which finish is easiest to look after?
Brushed nickel and brushed brass hide fingerprints and water marks best, while chrome shows them but wipes clean easily. Our guide to bathroom tap finishes explains how each one looks and ages.
How should I clean plated accessories?
Imperial recommends warm soapy water and a soft cloth. Avoid bleach, abrasive cleaners and polishes on plated finishes, particularly nickel and gold.
Can you fit the accessories for me?
Yes. If we are fitting your bathroom, we will position and fix the accessories as part of the job. Book a free one-to-one consultation to plan the whole room.
