Mini Freestanding Baths: The Smallest Sizes We Sell

Mini Freestanding Baths: The Smallest Sizes We Sell

TL;DR: The smallest freestanding bath we sell is the Jena roll top slipper bath at 1350 x 750mm, from £1,786, with cast iron options from 1370mm and several acrylic baths at 1500mm.

  • The smallest straight bath we sell is 1400 x 700mm; a standard UK bath is 1700 x 700mm.
  • For a narrow room, the Mona single slipper bath is 1500 x 700mm, from £1,681.
  • The smallest cast iron baths are the Regent and Carlyon at 1370 x 760mm.
  • Allow clear space around the bath for cleaning, plus room beside it to step out and dry off.
  • Measure the route in as well as the room, including doors, stairs and landings.
  • If space is very tight, a back to wall bath gives a similar look with no gap behind.

The smallest freestanding bath we sell is the Jena roll top slipper bath, at 1350mm long and 750mm wide. After that come two cast iron baths at 1370mm and a group of acrylic baths at 1500mm, so a mini freestanding bath can fit in more bathrooms than you might expect.

Below is every small freestanding bath in our range, followed by how to measure, how much space to leave around it and what to choose if it won't fit. Prices are ours at the time of writing, include VAT and are the lowest price for that size.

What is the smallest bath size?

A standard UK bath is 1700 x 700mm. Small straight baths usually start at 1500 x 700mm, and the shortest common size is 1400 x 700mm. Anything shorter is normally a freestanding slipper bath or a corner bath. In our range:

Smallest slipper bath

A slipper bath has one or both ends raised, so you can lean back in comfort even in a short bath. That makes it a good shape for a small room. Our smallest is the Jena at 1350mm, with a raised back on a plinth base. The Mona is a 1500 x 700mm single slipper with a raised end 680mm high, and in cast iron the Ritz comes in a 1540mm length. See them all in our slipper baths.

Very small freestanding baths: is a short bath comfortable?

A 1350 or 1370mm bath is for sitting up and soaking rather than lying flat. At 1500mm most adults can recline with their knees bent, and the Hettie is designed with a deep interior for that size. If you are tall, sit in a bath of the same length before you buy, or come and see ours in the showroom.

How to measure for a small freestanding bath

  1. Measure the floor from wall to wall at floor level, allowing for skirting, boxing and pipes.
  2. Add the clearances below to the bath's length and width to see what really fits.
  3. Check heights under windows, sloping ceilings and sills, especially at the raised end of a slipper bath.
  4. Measure the route in, including the front door, stairs, landings and the bathroom door. Cast iron is much heavier than acrylic, so check the floor and access too.
  5. Find the waste route. A freestanding bath drains through the floor, which is easier with timber floors than solid concrete.

How much space do you need around a freestanding bath?

As a rule of thumb, leave at least 100 to 150mm between a freestanding bath and the walls so you can clean behind it, and more if you can, as the bath looks better with room around it. Allow about 700mm of clear floor beside the bath to step in and out and dry off. Remember to leave room for floor-standing or wall-mounted taps, as many freestanding baths have no tap holes.

Roll top baths in small bathrooms

A small roll top bath works best where it has a clear wall to sit along and the door doesn't swing into it. For a short, narrow roll top bath, the Jena, Hettie and Audra are all 750mm wide. If width matters more than length, the Mona is 700mm wide.

Alternatives when a freestanding bath won't fit

  • A back to wall small bath. The Juliet back to wall bath is 1500 x 750mm, from £1,765. It has a freestanding look from the front, but its flat back sits against the wall, so you lose the gap behind. Our back to wall baths guide explains more.
  • A corner bath. Our corner baths include the 1200 x 1200mm Carron Oriole, from £1,180. Read our corner baths guide to see whether one would save space in your room.
  • A short straight bath. The Carron Imperial Twin Grip and Carron Delta single ended baths both come in a 1400 x 700mm size.
